2 HOC February 2016 shaped cards no squares or rectangles

So in honor of Valentine’s Day, I made a heart!

I ran this heart thru my SU! happy hearts embossing folder to add some texture and then popped it up on the larger heart.  I stamped this cute sentiment and added it to the hearts along with some bling and a candy dot! hoc feb 2 (640x415)

House of Cards January Challenge...

Happy New Year! Can you believe it is 2016? And that it is time for a new House of Cards challenge? This month’s challenge is to use the colors in the challenge image, use embossing, or do both!

1 HOC January 2016 use embossing and or colors

I received some fun embossing folders for Christmas, courtesy of my niece! And the tree trunks embossing folder was calling my name for this card. I dug around in my stash and discovered this cute Lawn Fawn stamp and die set that I received as a freebie awhile back. hoc jan 16 3 (560x640)

So I stamped the lil guy and colored him up with some pencils and gamsol. This was my first time using the gamsol (odorless mineral spirits) and a blending stump and it was super easy to use. I usually use a blending pencil and blend until my hand wants to fall off. This was way easier – no effort at all! hoc jan 16 4 (640x443)

After coloring, I die cut Pepe and popped him up on the embossing and added the sentiment. I couldn’t resist adding a few hearts at the last minute. He reminds me of Pepe Le Pew and his undying love for his lady friend Penelope. I loved those cartoons as a kid!

Now it’s up to you! Be sure to play along this month! Click HERE to link up your card!

Thanks for stopping by! I will be back on Monday with a brand new year of cards for you!

Supplies: CS: SU! white, pear pizzazz, pink pirouette, and sahara sand. Stamps/Dies: Lawn Fawn stinkin’ cute. Other: Trunks embossing folder, colored pencils, SU! heart confetti punch.

  December Blog Hop

I was inspired by the colors in this photo.  I think the pinks mixed with the kraft looks gorgeous!  I started by using one of my favorite Great Impressions stamps.  I just adore how the penguin peeks out of the gift box!  I used a variety of colors that I drew from the inspiration photo and the pattern paper.  After I colored my little penguin, I layered him up on some pink and aqua paper. hoc dec 1 (523x640)

I added some pearls and candy dots to mimic the confetti pattern in the paper.  And then a layer of pink to the card front which I popped up on kraft.  I am literally tickled pink with this card! hoc dec 2 (640x469)

House of Cards Stamped and Cut Window Challenge...

Hello all! Welcome to the new monthly challenge for the House of Cards! This month we have a fun technique for you to try - the stamped and cut window. Simply die cut or punch out an image in your card front and add something stamped underneath.

Serena closer NOVEMBER Technique challenge stamped punch window

I started by die cutting this leaf using my SU! leaflets framelits out of a piece of crumbcake. I stamped the sentiment and then ran this card front thru an aide impression plate to get this cool texture. hoc 1 (534x640)

On my white card base, I used a variety of inks to make a multi colored circle that when I place my die cut over will look like a fall leaf. I stamped, colored and die cut a couple of extra leaves to add to my main image. I added a bit of twine and thread on the stamped images and a faux stitched line around the die cut leaf. hoc 2 (640x425)

Be sure to join us this month at House of Cards and give this a try! Link up your card HERE!

House of Cards Color or Texture Challenge...

Today starts the new monthly challenge for the House of Cards!  This challenge is about using these beautiful fall colors or adding some texture to your card or both!  I opted to use both!

I started by using a piece of SU! early espresso core’dinations cardstock that I ran through the woodgrain embossing folder.  The beauty of the core’dinations cardstock is that it is sandable.  So I sanded the ridges of the woodgrain a bit. oct HOC 1 (531x640)

I die cut six tags out of varying cardstock that was inspired by the colors in the challenge image.  I ran each of these tags thru a sweater impression plate to add a bit of texture there as well.  I stacked them together with just a bit of each color sticking out. oct HOC 2 (633x640)

I stamped the pumpkins and sentiment on the top tag and added some chunky orange jute to the tag. That's it!

Be sure to play along with this challenge!  You can link up HERE!

House of Cards Stitching Challenge...

Welcome to September and this month’s House of Cards Challenge!  This is a fun one!  In fact, you will be in stitches over this one!  (OK – I really couldn’t help myself!)

Here is the scoop – just make a card with stitches – either real or faux!  Easy peasy, right?

I opted to use faux stitching because even though I have a sewing machine, I have yet to take it out of the closet, get it to the craft cave and set it up! HOC Sept 1 (522x640)

I used faux stitching on all of my elements!  I used my stitched wonky dies to showcase the sentiment and the blueprints 20 dies to cut my piece of cajun craze and the so saffron banner.  Once I had everything cut, I just layered everything up and added a doily for some extra interest! HOC Sept 2 (640x355)

I enjoyed making this card and I bet you will enjoy doing some stitching too!  Link up HERE to add your project!  You have the full month of September to get your project added to the House of Cards Challenge!

House of Cards Metallics Challenge...

Hello all!  Welcome to August 1st!  It is time for a new challenge at the House of Cards!  Today’s challenge is a word cue challenge – and that word?  Metallics!

This one stumped me for a while because I really wasn’t sure what I could use.  I tried making a card with a metallic finish and it looked awful!  Finally it dawned on me to use some of these sweet Simon Says Stamp card kit papers that have gold on them! hoc metallics 1 (511x640)

So I opted to make a wedding card.  I started off with SU! smokey slate cardstock and cut a sliver off the side so I could add the gold polka dotted paper.  Then I used some of the pretty flower paper and my pierced square die to cut a square so that I could showcase the two gold foil sketchy heart die cuts.  I heat embossed my sentiment in gold and then popped this card front onto another piece of smokey slate. hoc metallic 2 (640x404)

It’s your turn to give this a try – any type of metallic will do and I bet you are itching to give this challenge a try!  You can link up your creation HERE!

Thanks for stopping by today!  I am off tomorrow and will be back on Monday!

Supplies:  CS:  SU! smokey slate and gold foil.  SSS May card kit papers.  Stamps:  SSS congratulations.  Dies:  MFT pierced square dies.  SSS sketchy heart die.  Other:  SU! gold embossing powder.
