Retro Rubber Challenge 1...
November 04, 2014
Big news! Today is the debut of the Retro Rubber Challenge blog that I created with my friend Katie! We are excited to be at the big day finally! Our challenges will run two weeks in length and will give you plenty of time to combine our challenge with another one. The first challenge is all about using your oldest/first stamp that you have! It is anything goes.
Today I am using this beautiful Calla Lily stamp. I have had it for eons, not my first stamp, but fairly close to being my first stamp. I also used some very old wet embossing color markers. I couldn’t believe they still worked! I colored the image with green, yellow and white. Then crossed my fingers and stamped. I embossed the image using clear embossing powder.
My picture is a bit darker than I intended but it was the only way to get the lillies to show. I stamped the image on PTI rustic white paper and layered with SU! garden green. This stamp is one of my favorites that I had forgotten about! What a shame!
I have been a stamper for over twenty years. I was invited to a stamp party and received my very first stamp – a free rustic house image about one inch in size. I purchased a stamp set out of courtesy and promptly put it away. Eventually I was invited to another party where I was hooked. I have stamped on and off for years but more seriously in the last five years. A few months ago I started my blog which has allowed me the opportunity to interact with a fantastic community of stampers and papercrafters.

Jane the Lily is such a beautiful flower; I can see why you chose this stamp for our first challenge. I enjoyed hearing your story about how you got into stamping and how your first stamp was just set aside having bought it to be polite. I am glad you turned this into a hobby / business. You are very talented.

What a beautiful card! I love how you stamped it and how nice that your embossing markers still work after so long! I really enjoyed your story of how you got into stamping.

Jane, this is a beautiful stamp and what fun some old markers would still work with it. Floral and nature were my first stamps also!

I too have embossing markers . . . maybe I should break them out. I collected several of this series of stamps as well, but not the Calla Lily. Wonderful card and use of a good ole technique!
