Congrats...its a shaker...

Happy Friday everyone!  Today begins a new challenge at The Friday Mashup!  I am excited to present my project as guest designer.

Here is the challenge:

  • Create a project with a “shaker element”.
  • Create a project with a “Congratulations theme".
  • or Mash it Up! and create a project with a "Congratulations theme and a shaker element".

I chose to mash things up today and made a shaker congratulations card.  This card is a 4X4 card, perfect to attach to a wedding or anniversary gift.

I started off with PTI rustic cream as the base and the top layer.  The top is 3 1/4” square.  I used my SU! word bubbles to cut the window for my shaker card.  I cut the window, then stamped and embossed the images with gold embossing powder.  I used sticky tape to adhere the window sheet and then surrounded it with foam tape.  I made a slight miscalculation here – I should have doubled the foam tape.  By not doubling the tape, it ended up not shaking as much as I wanted.

I used a combination of seed beads, sequins and micro beads in the shaker.  I also added some tinsel glitter.  Warning!  This stuff is insane!  It was sealed and when I broke the seal I was showered in this glitter.  Then when I shook a little in the window sheet (I added it last), it immediately stuck to the window sheet and doesn’t move.  I don’t know as if I will use this again.  Lesson learned.  Plus it’s glitter that goes EVERYWHERE!!

The CS under the window sheet is rustic cream as well.  I glued a couple of sequins and seed beads to it before I closed up the shaker just to add some texture so that when all the “stuff” sinks to the bottom, you would still see some elements.  Again, this would have worked if I would have doubled the foam tape.  Instead all the stuff appears stuck in midair.  Afterwards, I decided that was OK.

Finally I layered up the card with some gold kraft CS and pumpkin pie CS.  I like the pop of orange with the kraft and gold.  Each of those layers where ¼” bigger than the next.

That’s it for me today!  Thanks for stopping by!  I am off for the weekend but will be back Monday with some more projects!
